Neusiedl is one of Burgenland's typical small towns situated near the national park and directly inthe vicinity of the unique, shallow lake Neusiedlersee (1-2m deep, 36km long, 7-14km wide). It lies at the crossing overfrom the Alps to the European-Asian plains, that is to say: The Pannonic lowlands and the beginning of the "Pußta". Thelake is the home of 250 species of birds. They live in the broad reed belt and salt pools which surround the lake. Thesunny climate (2000 sunshine hours/year) encouraged the Celts and the Romans to grow wine here.
