The winegrowing village of Donnerskirchen is idyllically located between the hills and lower foothills of the Leitha mountains, between the vineyards and blossoming cherry trees and the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl, the biggest European steppe lake (reaching depth of only 1. 5 m. ) a unique, naturally preserved area with many species of plants andbirds. On the east bank of the Hungarian Piszta, the wide, flat grassland of Seewinkel with salt pools, lakes and "Puszta" drawwells, riding stables and vineyards. From Donnerskirchen you can gaze across unending distances and enjoyromantic sunsets. An inspiring land with just a trace of the south and the east; the warm winds in your face andthe last mountain winds at your back. To the north lies the capital, Vienna, to the south central Burgenland with itsmany historical castles and fortresses and not far away Eisenstadt, Burgenland's main city and former residing place of "Fürst Esterhaszy! and the birth and work place of the famous composer Josef Haydn. A land of warm sunshine andmildness, of history, traditions and culture and of superior, internationally famed wines. Here you will find manywalking trails leading you to gentle heights with superb viewing points, to Roman quarries with views across the lakeand the Pannonic plain, The Romans calles this area Pannonia and in the north, by the River Danube many remains bearthis witness (Petronell, Heidentor, amphitheatre etc. ). Several cycling paths lead round the lake (cherry blossompath), excursions by ship across the lake, also to Hungary/Soprom. Typical for this area are the village squares and thelowroofed cottages of the winegrowers. And, of course, the wine taverns where you can enjoy the local wines and heartysnacks served directly by the winegrower's and strike up friendships with the warm hospitable local people and join inthe entertainments, music and songs and forget about all worries. In addition to this there is a grape gathering inautumn, a musical " Weinsommer", Haydn concerts, Golf (18 holes), openair pool, tennis, cafes with dancing, restaurants. In the neigbouring villages: Lakeside festival Mörbisch, ancient city of Rust, bathing beaches, sailingsurfing schools, riding, natural beaches, fishing, wine seminars, culinary specialities, exhibitions, festivals.
